Jaya Prada: Former MP and actor Jaya Prada declared ‘absconder’ by UP court over alleged election code violations; failure to appear prompts arrest order.

Jaya Prada: Declared as Absconder

In a recent development, former Member of Parliament and acclaimed actor Jaya Prada has been declared an ‘absconder’ by a Rampur court in Uttar Pradesh. This ruling comes in connection with two cases of alleged election code violations during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court has instructed the police to apprehend her and present her before the judiciary on March 6, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The charges against Jaya Prada stem from purported breaches of the Model Code of Conduct during her electoral campaign in 2019. Specifically, cases were registered against her at the Kemari and Swar police stations in Rampur. Despite repeated summonses issued by the special MP-MLA court, Jaya Prada has failed to appear, prompting the judiciary to take decisive action against her.

Jaya Prada’s political journey has been marked by twists and turns. Initially elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur in 2004 and 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket, she later faced expulsion from the party. Her subsequent affiliations saw her join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1994, followed by a stint as a Rajya Sabha MP and later a Lok Sabha MP. However, differences with party leadership led her to switch allegiances to the Samajwadi Party, before ultimately joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2019, just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Despite her prominence in both the political and entertainment spheres, Jaya Prada’s current legal troubles have escalated due to her non-appearance in court. The judiciary’s decision to declare her an absconder comes after she failed to respond to multiple summonses and seven non-bailable warrants. The police have reported that all attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful, with her known mobile numbers being switched off.

Consequently, Judge Shobhit Bansal has authorized law enforcement to take action, directing the Superintendent of Police of Rampur to assemble a team to arrest Jaya Prada and ensure her presence in court for the scheduled hearing on March 6.

Conclusion

Jaya Prada’s journey from the silver screen to the political arena has been notable, with her career spanning over 60 films across multiple languages. However, her current legal predicament underscores the challenges she faces in balancing her public roles and obligations. As the legal proceedings unfold, the spotlight remains firmly fixed on Jaya Prada, highlighting the complexities inherent in the intersection of fame, politics, and the law.
